Combining Community & Service

Community & Service

For James McNeill service has never been limited to a job—it has been a lifelong commitment to the people and communities of Anne Arundel County.

Having lived in Glen Burnie, Ferndale, Odenton, and Gambrills, James understands the day-to-day concerns of residents because they are his concerns as well. He has built his life in the same neighborhoods he now seeks to serve, giving him a deep connection to the community and a clear understanding of what families expect from their Sheriff’s Office.

James’ dedication to service extends well beyond his professional career. He volunteered as an Auxiliary Police Officer and Sergeant with the Baltimore County Auxiliary Police, contributing his time and skills to support public safety efforts. He also worked alongside the Anne Arundel County Sheriff’s Office on community-based programs, including juvenile fingerprinting and identification initiatives designed to protect children and provide peace of mind to families.

He believes that strong communities are built through trust, visibility, and engagement—not just enforcement. That’s why Jim is committed to strengthening the relationship between the Sheriff’s Office and the people it serves.

As Sheriff, James will expand opportunities for community involvement by establishing a volunteer Sheriff’s Posse and increasing outreach programs that educate residents on critical issues such as the opioid epidemic and crime prevention. He will also create pathways for citizens to contribute their time and expertise, including identifying grant opportunities that can bring additional resources into the county without increasing the burden on taxpayers.

At its core, James’ approach is simple: public safety works best when the community and law enforcement work together. By fostering stronger partnerships, encouraging volunteerism, and maintaining an open line of communication with residents, James will help build a safer, more connected Anne Arundel County.
